Details: Chicken Coop Clean Out...

Our neighbor's dad is in his 90's and grew up next door. He could not remember the last time this coop had chicken occupants.

It was damp and dreary when we started fixing it up for our chicks last April.

It was a good feeling to bring it back to it's original purpose. To hold and protect the lives of a giving healthy flock.

Yesterday was spent cleaning out the last remnants of chicken life. One would hope that it would someday house chickens again but the chances are faint...

I miss our birds but find peace in knowing they are with a wonderful loving family.

  1. I'm so interested in the fact that you did not show us any chickens. That really makes me feel the loss of them. I feel like I am back in art school whenever I look at your photos. They so often tell stories that I want to talk about them in critique form.

  2. blessings to you dawen, you have given them such a great life. they were able to be loved, adored, held, studied, they were able to run, flap, forage, stretch and live a natural life. and that they will be able to continue that is such awesome effort on your part. i hear the sadness and the letting go ... huge hugs to you. they become so close to us, taking space in our hearts. i so get this. do you think of getting a new flock in your new home, or is it too soon to consider?

  4. We only got our chickens in May, but I can't imagine life without them, they are part of the family now :) I can appreciate how cleaning out the coop would have been hard, even knowing they have found a loving family. Your photos are beautiful and tell a lovely story.

    1. Thank you Kim. We would have loved to bring them with us... even checked on how to get them across the border. It was just not feasible at this time :-( They will be missed.
